We organize an event with passion, we put all our energy into it, and once the evening is over… everyone relaxes, breathes and says “finally over!” However, it is precisely at this moment that a real treasure trove of learning appears: the post-mortem .

A post-mortem is a debriefing meeting held after an event. The goal? To identify what went well, what can be improved, and to draw lessons for future projects.

1. Why do a post-mortem?

Even if everything went well, there are always areas for improvement. The post-mortem allows you to:

  • Capitalizing on successes

  • Identify problems and their causes

  • Improve future planning and execution

  • Share learnings with the entire team

This is a key step in making each event an even better experience the next time.

2. When and how to do it?

The post-mortem should ideally be done in the days following the event , when everything is still fresh in the memory. Some tips to make it effective:

  • Prepare an agenda: strengths, areas for improvement, guest feedback, logistics, suppliers, etc.

  • Encourage honesty: every constructive criticism is an opportunity for improvement

  • Document findings: notes, photos, reports, lists of ideas

3. Include all stakeholders

For a complete debriefing, all the main stakeholders must be included: organizers, technical team, caterer, suppliers, facilitators, etc. Each point of view provides a different and enriching vision.

4. Don’t forget guest feedback

The post-mortem isn't just an internal process. Participant feedback is valuable: overall satisfaction, comments, suggestions, etc. This allows you to measure the experience and adjust your future events accordingly.

5. Transform lessons into concrete actions

The post-mortem is useless if the lessons remain on paper. For each point to improve, define:

  • Concrete action

  • A manager

  • A deadline for implementation

Thus, each event becomes an opportunity for continuous progress.

🎉 In summary

The post-mortem is like the secret key of savvy organizers . It's thanks to it that your events become smoother, more impactful, and more memorable every time.

So, remember: ✨ The after-event is just as important as the before and during. Debriefing, learning, and growing is the best way to grow in the event industry.
